Substrate: calciferous rocks,

Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)

Note: a mild-temperate to subtropical, mainly Mediterranean lichen found on the top of sun-exposed calcareous boulders, especially in small depressions of the rock, often starting the life-cycle on other crustose lichens; much overlooked in the past, and certainly more common; exceptionally reaching the subalpine belt on south-facing rocks in dry-continental valleys of the Alps.
