Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species (of the C. cerina-group?) with a thin, rimose to areolate, grey thallus and sessile apothecia with reddish-yellow discs and zeorine margins with an entire thalline rim, recalling C. diphyodes or C. aractina, but ascospores distinctly smaller; on siliceous, periodically submerged rocks and boulders along streams and headwaters of rivers; not common, in the study area so far reported from a few localities in the Western Alps.
