Substrate: calciferous soil
Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species resembling P. rufescens in e.g. the marginal pycnidia, but squamules thinner (hardly exceeding 400 µm) and ascospores narrower; overgrowing calcicolous bryophytes in temporarily moist sites; widespread in Southern and Central Europe but altogether rare, with a few records from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
