Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with a thallus composed of minute roundish squamules, later forming granulose blastidia, and asci with a variable number of ascospores (8 to 32), found on bark of deciduous trees (e.g. Fagus sylvatica) in more or less closed forests; widespread but not common in montane forests of Mediterranean orobiomes, with a single record from the Western Alps (Italy).
