Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with a bright to dark green thallus usually not exceeding 3 cm in diam., with adnate to partly ascending, repeatedly branched, strap-like lobes, the apothecia usually sparse or lacking; on permanently inundated siliceous boulders in rivers and large creeks with not too fast running water; widespread in Europe but rare, with a single record from the Eastern Alps, which needs confirmation.
