Substrate: bark, lignum, siliceous rocks
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)
Note: We prefer to maintain as a distinct taxon this chemical strain characterised by the presence of olivetoric acid, because there is evidence of ecological and even physiological differences with respect to the typical variety (e.g. var. ceratea is more frequent in dry-continental areas, see Nimis 2016).
