Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a taxon with reduced spore numbers per ascus and muriform ascospores which are longer than 30 µm, found on limestone and dolomite in moist places; widespread in Europe and also known from Asia and Arctic North America, but much rarer than the typical variety.
