Lichenised.

Substrate: bark, lignum, acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata)

Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)

Note: a cool-temperate to boreal-montane, circumpolar lichen found on acid bark, especially of conifers, occasionally on lignum and on siliceous rocks, with optimum near treeline; widespread throughout the Alps.
