Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with an areolate thallus in various shades of brown, the areolae coarsely sorediate to blastidiate, the sessile apothecia with red-brown to black discs and granular to occasionally sorediate margins, usually partly pruinose, most ascospores 3-septate; on mortar and limestone on shaded walls; widespread in Europe, with a few, mostly historical records from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
