Lichenised.

Substrate: calciferous rocks, intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists)

Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)

Note: on steeply inclined surfaces of basic siliceous rocks (especially basalt), sometimes on calciferous rocks. The species has been often recorded as Lecanora conferta, a northern species which seems to be absent in the Alps.
