Altitudinal distribution: nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: a (circum-) arctic-alpine species with an endosubstratic thallus, or with whitish, subsquamulose granules around the apothecia, which are turbinate to substipitate and have brown, non-pruinose discs, ascospores narrowly-ellipsoid; on limestone, in the Arctic also on bones, with a single record from the nival belt in the Eastern Alps (Austria).
