Substrate: intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists)
Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a variety differing in the thallus with a Pd+ yellow to red reaction; on horizontal to inclined rock faces of rocks which usually have a low content in calcium; in the study area so far known from a few localities in the Western Alps (France).
