Substrate: siliceous rocks, metal-rich siliceous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species with a thin, rimose, brownish-grey thallus reacting K+ red, mostly developing at the same time roundish, coarsely granular soralia and apothecia with broad, black margins; a taxon based on a type from Northern Sweden, whose ecology and distribution are still insufficiently known.
