Substrate: living mosses, siliceous rocks, acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata), lignum
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: on a wide variety of substrata including soil, bryophytes, moribund plants, siliceous rocks, and conifer bark, mostly on vertical or underhanging faces; certainly much overlooked, but never common in the Alps.
