Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with an indistinct thallus, subglobose to tuberculate, blackish apothecia with a dark red-brown hypothecium reacting K+ purple-black, and simple, mostly ovoid ascospores; on conifers in boreal to temperate-montane forests; a rare species, in the study area so far only recorded from a single locality in the Eastern Alps (Austria).
