Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a recently-described silicicolous species of the L. tessellata-group based on a type from California, with a relatively thin, greyish thallus consisting of areoles with a rough surface, an amyloid medulla, apothecia often one per areole in a more or less central position, and a pigmented hypothecium; in the study area so far known only from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
