Verrucaria fischeri Müll. Arg.

Syn.: Lithocia tristis A. Massal., Verrucaria diffracta Anzi, Verrucaria tristis (A. Massal.) Kremp. non Hepp
Lichenised.
Substrate: calciferous rocks, intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists)
Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: on steeply inclined faces of compact limestone and dolomite in open habitats, mostly above treeline. Most records should be checked against the very similar V. finitima and V. poeltii. The species does not belong to Verrucaria and seems to be related to Staurothele.
