Altitudinal distribution: alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)
Note: an arctic-alpine species with an effuse, minutely areolate to subgranular thallus, and minute black apothecia with both margin and epihymenium bluish to blackish green, reacting N+ red violet, the ascospores not exceeding 10 µm in length; on siliceous stones and low outcrops, with a single record from the Eastern Alps
