Altitudinal distribution: alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)
Note: a sorediate species recalling Varicellaria lactea in habitus, but thallus C-, Pd+ orange-red (fumarprotocetraric and succinprotocetraric acids), apothecia unknown; on siliceous rocks in the alpine belt; so far only recorded from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
