Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species resembling Rh. postumum, but with a minutely verruculose thallus and constantly 3-septate, first hyaline, later greenish-brownish ascospores; widespread in Northern Europe but altogether rare, with a single record from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
