Altitudinal distribution: alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)
Note: a rare species of the L. atrobrunnea-complex with pale brownish, glossy areoles and sunken, black, glossy apothecia producing broadly ellipsoid to subglobular ascospores; parasitic on silicicolous brown Acarospora-species, on which it develops small insular thalli; only known from the Southern Alps in Austria.
