Substrate: calciferous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species resembling S. fissa in the verruculose-areolate, grey-brown thallus and the ellipsoid hymenial algae, but asci 8-spored, and ascospores constantly only 3-septate and soon dark-brown (22-24 × 9-11 µm); on dolomitic boulders along river banks, only recorded from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
