Substrate: siliceous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species with a spreading, bluish-grey to brownish, rimose to areolate thallus, relatively small, immersed ascomata, and ellipsoid ascospores (to c. 25 µm long); on siliceous boulders in sunny places, often together with Sarcogyne privigna; here and there in Europe, including the Eastern Alps (Austria).
