Substrate: calciferous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species resembling P. cyclospora in the subglobose ascospores, but with red-brown apothecia with a red-violet hypothecium; on calcareous rocks (dolomite); so far only known from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
