Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: on calcareous rocks, rarely also on smooth bark, mostly in Mediterranean forests; the species is hitherto known only from the island of Marettimo, from Catalonia in Spain, and from the Carnic Alps (Austria).
