Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species of the H. epulotica-group with a white thallus containing a trentepohlioid photobiont, pale flesh-coloured apothecia, and subglobose ascospores ≤ 10 µm in diam.; on limestone below or near treeline; distribution insufficiently known; in the study area only reported from the Eastern Alps.
