Thallus habit: erect, bushy with dense not entangled fronds. Size: 2-2.5cm high. Branching: alternate, dichotomic-pinnate (A) (whorled); distal dichotomous branchlets. Intergenicula: cylindrical, tapered near apices, 0.2-0.4 (0.5)mm long, 0.07-0.1mm in diameter. Genicula: 60-200µm long. Colour of living specimen: from red scarlet to purple. Colour of dried specimen: from white to ivory yellow. Medulla: cells 50-120µm long. Cortex: cells 8-20µm long. Epithallial cells: rectangular, polygonal, 10-15µm in diameter (B). Cell connections: cell fusions. Other features: trichocytes J-type. |
