Non- or doubtfully lichenised.

Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a non-lichenised species characterised by the non-septate ascospores with smooth walls, a stalk of strongly swollen hyphae reacting K+ aeruginose, and a medium-brown hypothecium; on decaying twigs of Populus; widespread in Northern Europe, but very rare in the Alps; the only record from the Eastern Alps (Austria) needs confirmation.
