Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species with an olive-brown, squamiform thallus bearing laminal, undelimited, reddish-brown ascomata; on soil layers over calcareous schists under periodically xeric conditions leading to steppe vegetation; widespread in the Holarctic region, but with a single locality in the Eastern Alps.
