Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: on old trees in humid, but well-lit situations, with optimum in humid Mediterranean forests. The species, which contains usnic acid and is always sterile, does not belong to Lepraria.
