Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with a pustulate thallus containing the gyrophoric acid syndrome in the cortex but not in medulla, usually fertile; on bark of deciduous trees; widespread in the Holarctic region, but rare in Europe, with a single historical record from the Eastern Alps (Germany).
