Altitudinal distribution: alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)
Note: an arctic to nemoral-alpine species with a greyish-yellow thallus (rhizocarpic acid absent!), a non-amyloid medulla, and 1-septate ascospores (to 15 µm long); on siliceous boulders, obligately parasitic on Tremolecia atrata, with records from the Eastern Alps only (Austria).
