Il biancospino di Sicilia è una specie delle montagne del Mediterraneo, in Italia presente allo stato spontaneo soltanto in Sicilia, sui Monti Peloritani, Nebrodi e Madonie; la specie viene talvolta coltivata anche a scopo ornamentale, ed è sporadicamente presente anche altrove in parchi e giardini. Le foglie e i frutti, commestibili ma insipidi, hanno proprietà officinali. Il legno di colore rossastro, duro e compatto, viene impiegato per lavori al tornio e per la produzione di carbonella. Il nome generico deriva dal greco 'kratos' (forza), antico nome comune della pianta, in riferimento alla durezza del legno. Forma biologica: fanerofita cespugliosa. Periodo di fioritura: aprile-maggio. Syn.: Crataegus laciniata Ucria - Presenza nel Parco: coltivata,. - Badia Prataglia (06/1996, 08-10/1997, 05-06-09/1998, 08/2000, 09/2005, Herb. Padula, sub. Crataegus laciniata; Padula, 2008, sub C. laciniata), Capanno di Badia Prataglia (Gonnelli oss. pers. 2006). Probabilmente introdotta in epoche passate e ancora oggi presente nella zona di Badia Prataglia. |
