The species was reported by Galasso et al. (2018a) based on a herbarium specimen of P. capillare L. stored at MSNM and revised by Filip Verloove as P. hillmanii. A follow-up inspection revealed that the specimens revised by Verloove as P. hillmanii are from Belgium (MSNM26108, MSNM26109), not from Lombardia (Domina et al. 2025).
