The name Thymus pannonicus All., after a revised typification, should be applied to a defined taxonomic group from East Europe (Nachychko and Sosnovsky 2021). Within Th. pannonicus, two varieties are recognized: Th. pannonicus var. pannonicus(= Th. kosteleckyanus, pubescent leaves), Th. pannonicus var. latifolius (Besser) Jalas (glabrous leaves).
