PHOTOBIONTS
Lichens are in symbiosis with different types of photosynthetic organisms: green algae and
cyanobacteria. The type of photobiont may be important for the identification. Here are some
examples.
Photobiont blue-green
, thallus
heteromerous
: the photobiont layer is blue-green (microscopic
section!), the thallus is dorsiventral, dark-coloured and not gelatinous in the wet state.
Photobiont blue-green
, thallus
homoiomerous
: the photobiont layer is blue-green (microscopic
section!), the thallus is not dorsiventral, dark-coloured and gelatinous in the wet state.
Photobiont chlorococcoid
(or trebouxioid): the photobiont layer is bright green, the lichen is not
dark coloured in the wet state.
Photobiont chlorococcoid
: the photobiont layer is bright green, the lichen is not dark coloured in the
wet state.
