In order to promote the participation of young researchers, grants will be assigned to undergraduate students, PhD students, and post-docs who are resident in Italy or abroad and who will submit an abstract as first author. The grant covers the registration fee, accommodation, travel expenses (up to a maximum of € 200,00), and the social dinner.
The grant request must be sent to the Secretariat of the Italian Botanical Society (sbi@unifi.it) with a short curriculum vitae (download the Application Form).
The applicant must be registered to the Conference and submit an abstract following the instructions in the page Abstracts
The Directory Board of the Society will select the grant recipients.
Grant recipients must either be members of the Italian Botanical Society, or apply for membership when they receive the grant.
Candidates should NOT pay the registration fee for the Congress until the outcome of the evaluation process is known. Those who do not receive the grant can then decide whether or not to register at the reduced fee.
For the 2025 Conference up to 4 participation grants will be reserved for young researchers who will submit not an abstract, but a research proposal to be presented in the framework of the novel format “Aperiworkshop”. The aim of this initiative is that of allowing young researchers to find other researchers willing to participate to collaborative research projects. The proposal should be structured as follows:
a) Title
b) Authors and affiliations
c) Problem targeted (max 2000 character, spaces included)
d) Proposed methodology for the investigation (max 2000 character, spaces included)
e) Expected results (max 1000 character, spaces included)
f) Minimum and maximum number of participants which could be involved in the project (max 100 character, spaces included)
It should be written in a A4 document, with 2 cm margin per side, in Times New Roman font, 12 points size. The proposals will be evaluated on the basis of feasibility of the proposed research, the solidity of the methodology, the impact of the results, as well as the potential array of researchers which could be involved.
The proposal must be submitted via e-mail (sbi@unifi.it) to the Secretariat of the Italian Botanical Society before May 31th, 2025.
The prize will be awarded for a PhD thesis discussed in the three-year period 2023-2025 on topics related to General Botany, Systematic Botany, Environmental and Applied Botany and Pharmaceutical Botany. The prize will be awarded after evaluation by a Commission and the prize-winner will be announced by the President of the Italian Botanical Society during the Shareholders' Meeting General Assembly of the 120th Congress.
The thesis must be submitted (by S.B.I. members or non-members) via e-mail (sbi@unifi.it) to the Secretariat of the Italian Botanical Society before May 31th, 2025. The prize consists in: free registration to the Conference, a contribution to travel expenses (up to € 200,00), free accommodation, lunches and congress dinner as well as a one-year membership to the Italian Botanical Society.
Candidates should NOT pay the registration fee for the Conference until the outcome of the evaluation process. Non-winners can then decide whether or not to register at the reduced fee.
